Fire renders two families homeless in Banihal
Banihal, Feb 08: A two-story house was damaged in a fire incident in Chanar area of Bankot village in Banihal on Thursday.
The residential structure housed two families, both are rendered homeless.
The house was shared by Nazir Begum, wife of late Muhammad Ashraf Najjar and her two sons living separately in it.
They said their clothing, bedding, and food were all destroyed as the attic and the first floor were completely razed to ground.
"While waiting for the firefighters, the locals tried to extinguish the fire on their own, but failed. Then after around 10-minutes, the fire brigade arrived and took the fire under control within 30-minutes, saving the ground floor," a local told Greater Kashmir.
Teams of firefighters from Jawahar Tunnel and Nawyug Tunnel were also rushed to the spot, an official said.
SDPO Banhal Ajay Singh Jamwal told Greater Kashmir over the phone that the fire and emergency team from Banihal quickly brought the fire under control and a police team led by SHO Banihal, Firdous Ahmed also reached the spot.
"The damage and the cause of fire is being ascertained," Singh said.
