Fire incident near Hariparbat Fort
Srinagar, Jan 27: A fire broke out near the historic Hariparbat Fort in Downtown, however it was doused off and no damage was reported.
As per the officials, the fire broke out in the forest area adjacent to the fort. The officials said that the dry vegetation, including grass and bushes, caught fire that spread near the fort. They said fire and emergency officials received the information about the incident around 4:15 pm. The teams of F&E soon swung into action to contain the fire.
“The fire was brought under control, and only the grass and bushes caught fire, which was spreading. However, the timely action averted any major disaster. Our fire post near Makhdoom Sahib (RA) Shrine was pressed to put out the fire. In addition to that, a forest protection team also helped control the fire,” said an official. A witness said that massive smoke and fire were seen coming out of the areas, which panicked the people living in the residential areas nearby.
“We were afraid that amid dry season, the fire would spread in the low-lying areas, but luckily, it was brought under control,” said an eyewitness. The official said that they are not clear about the cause of the fire yet. To mention, a few days back, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning about a very high risk of forest fires in Jammu and Kashmir.
