Fire erupts in Lidder forest division in Anantnag
Anantnag, Jan 29: A forest fire broke out near Liver village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday evening, officials said.
Quoting officials, the news agency KNT reported the fire, which has engulfed Compartment 56 of the Lidder Forest Division in Bijbehara’s Mattan Forest Range, is spreading rapidly due to the dense vegetation and challenging terrain. Officials say the remote location is making firefighting efforts difficult.
"A large section of the forest is ablaze, and accessibility remains a major obstacle," said a forest department official. "Despite the challenges, teams are making every effort to control the fire."
Firefighters and local volunteers are on the ground, battling the flames, but the situation remains critical.
The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
