Fire breaks out in Anantnag forests

Anantnag, Feb 16: Forest fire broke out near Brar Salia village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday evening.

An official said that fire which has engulfed one of the compartments of the Lidder Forest Division is spreading rapidly due to the dense vegetation and challenging terrain.

DFO Lidder Forest Division Pahalgam Shama Roohi said the firefighting team is on the spot and efforts are on to douse the flames.

There has been a spurt in forest fire incidents in Jammu and Kashmir in recent times with experts attributing it to prolonged dry spell.
