As the digital revolution brought wholesale ease to individual life and efficiency to institutional working, it brought along great risks and dangers. These risks are individual, institutional and also at the level of governance structures. One of the core security areas that the governments around the world are focussing on is the financial frauds that are played online. We have umpteenth cases where people have been robbed off their hard earned money in a flash. Not a single day passes without people reporting such frauds. The only recourse for the people duped in such cases is the concerned police offices. It is here that the concerned police wings need to gear up, update their digital infrastructure, and up-skill their staff.

It is heartening to know that the cyber side of the police is working hard to save people from such frauds and chase the seamsters, nab them and bring them to book. In one such case the Crime Branch's police station CICE Jammu has recovered a huge sum, almost 40 lacs. It is considered as the first successful operational use of a newly issued Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).

Since the intervention of digital devices and practices in our lives is only increasing, it is incumbent on the concerned government departments to always upgrade the safety structures and also disseminate the required information through awareness programs so that people do not fall as easy victims to digital seamsters.

As almost all financial transactions now happen digitally it is extremely important for the relevant institutions to make their systems robust, and also help in enhancing the understanding and application of these systems at mass level. If our people are informed, that is the first, and most effective, level of safety.

One of the focus areas may be collaboration with other states within India, and through the central department with other countries globally. Since the digital world knows no borders, the cyber criminals often operate from far way locations and that makes it almost impossible for the police here to nab them.
