I have known Prof. Dr. Upendra Kaul, affectionately called U Kaul, since our college days at MAMC New Delhi, where he was a couple of years junior to me. Even back then, he stood out as a very disciplined, calm, and quiet individual. After completing his specialization and super specialization, he held various positions in different institutions. I had the chance to reconnect with him in 2011 when he was working at Escorts Hospital in New Delhi and later at Fortis Hospital.

Recently, to my surprise, I saw him working at two heart centers in Channapora, Srinagar, and Hawl, Pulwama. His decision to move from highly sophisticated centers in metropolitan cities to these centers, especially in the village of Hawl, reflects his deep love, affection, and care for the people of Kashmir. It takes a lot of dedication and sincerity to work tirelessly, especially for someone who is a pioneer in interventional cardiology in India, a recipient of the Padmashree award, and has experienced the comforts of super specialty hospitals. I truly admire his sincerity and dedication to serving the people of Kashmir.
