Pulwama, Oct 11: Residents of Telangam village, located four kilometers from south Kashmir's Pulwama town, are facing a threat of waterborne diseases due to unfiltered piped water supplied to the village.

A group of residents told Greater Kashmir that they are forced to drink contaminated water due to the lack of a filtration facility in the area.

Gulzar Ahmad, a resident, stated that the village's water is sourced directly from streams.

"A serious threat of waterborne diseases looms large over the village," said Ahmad.

Another resident claimed that several children from the village are already suffering from jaundice.

"Over the last few years, many residents have fallen ill due to the consumption of contaminated water," he said.

He mentioned that they have brought the matter to the attention of the concerned authorities several times, but to no avail.

"We have been facing this issue since 2008," said the resident.

The residents noted that the PHE department sends a water tanker to the village once a week under the pretext of providing relief.

"The supply is inadequate to meet the demand, prompting us to rely on unsafe sources for drinking water," the residents said.

They appealed to the authorities to address the issue as soon as possible.
