Fatal hit-and-run case solved in two hours in Kulgam: Police

Srinagar, Dec 01: J&K Police have successfully solved a fatal hit-and-run case within two hours of the incident in Kulgam, officials said today.

“Earlier today, a road accident occurred at Nipora, Mirbazar, in which Abdul Ahad Khanday son of Abdul Khaliq Khanday, (aged 87 years) resident of Nipora Mirbazar, was hit by an unknown vehicle while crossing the road. The injured was shifted to GMC Anantnag, where he was declared brought dead,” read a police statement.

Acting swiftly, J&K Police obtained and analysed CCTV footage, through which the vehicle involved was identified as a white Mahindra Bolero bearing registration No. JK03L-9171.

The said vehicle was subsequently seized. The driver involved in the accident has been identified as Sheikh Burhan Tariq son of Tariq Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Qazigund, (aged 21 years).

He has been arrested and further legal proceedings under relevant sections of law are underway.
