Budgam, Aug 13: A farmers’ training programme under the “Mera Resham Mera Abhimaan” campaign was held today at Braripathar, Chadoora, Budgam, attracting 60 sericulture farmers, including many youth eager to explore sericulture as a sustainable self-employment avenue.

The programme was conducted by Dr. Irfan Illahi and Dr. Aftab Ahmad Shabnam, Senior Scientists, along with a Senior Technical Assistant from the Central Silk Board’s Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute (CSRTI), Pampore, in coordination with the J&K Sericulture Development Department.

Farmers received hands-on training in the latest technologies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for effective silkworm rearing. Two former Sarpanchs attending the event lauded the initiative and called for more such programmes, noting Budgam’s significant potential to become a leading hub for sericulture.

The event also incorporated the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign, promoting national unity and pride among attendees. Organisers expressed confidence that such initiatives will not only boost local silk production but also open new livelihood opportunities for the rural population.
