Farmers rue lack of irrigation facilities in Gund
Kangan, Jun 27: The paddy farmers of Tehsil Gund in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday have expressed resentment over the lack of irrigation facilities for their agricultural land.
The farmers from Haknar, Fraw and adjacent villages said that amid the dry weather conditions, the source of irrigations have also dried and there are no facilities available to irrigate their paddy fields.
They said that no facilities were provided by the department to the farmers for irrigation purposes which has raised concerns among the farmers.
“Almost several hundred kanals of agricultural land grapple with lack of water. The authorities seem to be unmoved even after apprising them about the issue several times,” Abdul Rashid, a farmer told Greater Kashmir.
“Although we have sowed paddy saplings in our agricultural land, due to lack of water the land has dried up, raising grave concern among local farmers,” he said.
The farmers urged the irrigation department and the administration to make necessary arrangements for irrigation so that the farmers don’t face any hardships and losses.
