Family alleges medical negligence over death of 5-month-old at SDH Kupwara

Kupwara, Feb 17: Death of a 5 month old child at Sub District Hospital Kupwara, triggered massive protest by the relatives of the deceased child on Saturday.

They alleged medical negligence as the cause of death of their child. “On Friday we brought the child here as he was not keeping well. The on duty doctor prescribed medicines to the baby following which we left for home to Dardsun. During the night his condition deteriorated so we evacuated him to SDH Kupwara early Saturday morning. On reaching here we kept on waiting for a doctor but nobody turned up. At 10:30 a doctor arrived and examined the child. He suggested we admit the child and we did the same but after half an hour the child succumbed,” said a relative of the deceased.

The relatives have demanded stern action against the on duty doctors for their alleged medical negligence to prevent any such incident in future.

Meanwhile Medical Superintendent SDH Kupwara Dr Mohammad Shafi told Greater Kashmir that due to dehydration for the whole night, the condition of the child deteriorated. “I can feel the pain of the deceased child's parents. I assure that serious action will be taken against those involved, if anyone is found guilty,” he said.
