Fake handicrafts flood market, threatening artisans' livelihoods: CEPC raises alarm

Srinagar, Aug 11: COA of CEPC India, Sheikh Ashiq has sounded a warning bell over the proliferation of counterfeit handicrafts in the market, posing a significant threat to genuine artisans and cultural heritage.

In a strongly-worded statement issued on Sunday, Ashiq expressed deep concern about the rising presence of fake handicrafts being sold as authentic artisanal products. He emphasised that this trend not only deceives consumers but also undermines the hard work and cultural legacy of skilled artisans.

"Authentic handicrafts are more than just objects; they are a reflection of our rich cultural history," Ashiq stated. He highlighted the dedication of artisans who have refined their craft over generations, pouring their skill, creativity, and tradition into each piece they create.

The CEPC India official warned that the sale of counterfeit handicrafts poses a direct threat to artisans' livelihoods and diminishes the value of their work. He called for vigilance among both sellers and buyers to ensure the authenticity of traded or purchased handicrafts.

Ashiq stressed the importance of supporting genuine artisans, stating that it helps preserve cultural heritage and sustains communities relying on these crafts for their livelihood. He announced that CEPC India is committed to protecting the integrity of these cultural assets and will be taking steps to raise awareness about the issue.
