Srinagar, Oct 21: The Department of Agriculture, Sub-Division Sopore, in collaboration with the Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), SKUAST-Kashmir, organized an exposure visit for 105 farmers representing all zones of the Sopore area. The visit was aimed at acquainting the farmers with the latest advancements in dryland farming and innovative agricultural technologies, said a press release.

The event commenced with a warm welcome by Dr. Zahida Rashid, who extended greetings to the officials and participants on behalf of DARS, SKUAST-K. Prof. Mehfuza Habib provided an overview of the station’s research activities. She highlighted the remarkable achievements of the scientists in developing 52 high-yielding varieties of maize, pulses, and forage crops, along with validation of production technologies.

During the technical session, Dr. Ajaz A. Lone and Dr. Zahida Rashid delivered lectures on the latest technological know-how pertaining to Rabi pulses and forage cultivation. These sessions were followed by an interactive field visit, where the scientists of DARS Rangreth demonstrated various research trials and practical aspects of dryland farming.

The event proved highly enriching for the participating farmers, offering them valuable exposure to modern agricultural practices and strengthening the collaboration between the Department of Agriculture and SKUAST-Kashmir in promoting sustainable dryland agriculture.
