Srinagar, June 26: Former Director Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar Shabir Mujahid was nominated as Advisor, Ahata Waqaar ,Chanapora ,Sringar, a day care center for senior citizens.

His selection was made at an extra - ordinary meeting of the executive body of Ahata Waqaar convened today . Earlier the incumbent Chairman Ab Gani Parray had requested the forum of the Ahata Waqaar to allow him relinquish his responsibilities on the grounds of his aging health conditions .

Ab Gani Parray was assigned charge of the Chairman Ahata Waqaar by DLSA Srinagar on April 10,2019 - the day when Chief Justice of J&K High Court Justice Geeta Mittal inaugurated , first of its kind Ahata Waqaar at Chanapora.

Ahata Waqaar is a day care center and recreation for senior citizens which provides a platform to the senior citizens to share their priceless experiences and expertise to overcome various issues confronting the society.

Besides recreational facilities ,the center also provides various health care and legal guidance to the senior citizens to help them overcome feelings of loneliness ,depression and other psychiatric conditions among the elders . These facilities include an excellent library, recreational hall,reading room, pantry , counseling centre and physiotherapy.

On this occasion , the executive committee members lauded the contribution of Ab Gani Parray, prominent educationist of Kashmir, in running affairs of the Ahata Wqaar in a befitting manner during his long stint as its Chairman.

Speaking in the meeting , Shabir Mujahid assured his wholehearted support for running programmes and policies of the center for the welfare of senior citizens. The meeting also discussed threadbare some upcoming programmes proposed in the month of July for entertainment and welfare of the senior citizens.
