Jammu, Aug 30: Former Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Jammu Kashmir Police (JKP), Manju Rashid passed away in Jammu on Thursday evening. She was 75.

The Nimaz-e-Janaza of the late Indian Police Service (IPS) officer was performed at 3 pm at Gujjar Nagar Graveyard, Jammu on Friday.

The Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain has expressed deep sorrow over her sad demise.

Sharing grief on behalf of the J&K Police Pariwar, DGP Swain, in his condolence message, extended his sincere sympathies to the bereaved family and relatives of the deceased officer.

He prayed for the departed soul and said, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her loved ones during this difficult time.”

DGP Swain said, “Manju Rashid, a dedicated woman officer, who left for heavenly abode last evening, was a respected member of the J&K Police family. The entire police force stands in solidarity with her family and loved ones during this hour of grief.”

“Manju Rashid, who served the Jammu and Kashmir Police with distinction, retired as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police. During her illustrious career, she served the police organization with dedication and professionalism in many important positions, contributing significantly to the safety and security of the region which include DySP CID; SDPO Bakshi Nagar; DySP Armed Police; DySP GRP; Staff Officer to DIG; AD, Adm Police TRG College Udhampur; Principal Police Technical Institute Vijaypur; Staff Officer to IGP Jammu Range; Commandant 14th Bn/3rd IR Jammu, DIG Armed Police and retired as DIG in the year 2009,” DGP recalled.

Born on July 19, 1949, Manju Rashid after doing MA, B Ed joined the Police Department as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) on February 2, 1984. She was inducted into the Indian Police Service on March 9, 2001, and subsequently rose to the rank of DIG.

She attained superannuation as DIG IRP Jammu on July 31, 2009, after serving the department for 26 years.

She is survived by her husband Rashid Feroz, a retired Engineer and other members of the family.
