Everyone in Kashmir wants tourists back: MP Mian Altaf
Sonamarg, May 29: National Conference Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad on Thursday said that people across Kashmir, whether directly involved in tourism or not, want tourists to return to the Valley.
Speaking as the chief guest at an event organised by the Maharashtra Tour Organisers Association (MTOA) in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Department and the J&K chapter of the Hoteliers Club in Sonamarg, Mian Altaf said the recent Pahalgam terror attack was an unfortunate incident condemned by all.
He emphasised that the people of Kashmir have always welcomed tourists and pilgrims, and continue to work towards making the region a safe and hospitable destination. “Whether or not they are associated with tourism, everyone in Kashmir wants tourists back. The Hoteliers Club, under the leadership of its president Mushtaq Chaya, is playing an active role in this direction,” he said.
He urged the government, particularly the tourism department and law enforcement agencies, to take all necessary measures to prevent incidents like the one in Pahalgam and to ensure a secure and tourist-friendly environment.
Mian Altaf also reaffirmed the Valley’s longstanding hospitality towards the Amarnath Yatra pilgrims, stating that locals have always extended help and support, and will continue to do so this year as well.
The event in Sonamarg, themed *Chalo Kashmir*, was part of ongoing efforts to revive the tourism sector following the Pahalgam incident. Organizers said at least 60 national tour operators and prominent hoteliers from across India participated. The event was also attended by MLA Eidgah Mubarak Gul and JK Hoteliers Club Chairman Mushtaq Chaya.
