Srinagar, Dec 9: Government College for Women, M A Road, Srinagar hosted an awareness programme to mark the International Anti-Corruption Day on Monday.

The event was organised by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) J&K in collaboration with the NSS and Debating Committee of the host college.

The programme aimed at educating students and faculty about the scourge of corruption and the importance of ethical conduct in society.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and teachers alike.

Inspector ACB Srinagar, Suhail Rasool presented the concept note about the programme followed by a formal welcome address by the Principal of the host college, Yasmeen Farooq.

In her address, the Principal of the college emphasised the role of youth in eradicating corruption. “Corruption is a social evil that undermines development and trust. Students must lead the fight against it by adhering to integrity and transparency in their lives,” she said.

Executive Engineer from ACB, Aijaz Masood delivered an insightful talk on corruption, highlighting various forms of corruption, its impact on governance and strategies to combat it.

A speech competition was also held on the theme ‘Nature and Type of Corruption We See Around Us’ in which students of the college participated.

Sara Kaul (5th semester) bagged the 1st position while Hibasha and Hurmut secured 2nd and 3rd positions.

Prof Mudasir Nazar from the Political Science Department deliberated upon various crude forms of corruption which go around us anonymously.

He also highlighted the efforts needed to address the problem.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks presented by Saduf Nisar (NSS PO).

Prof Mehbooba Bano, HOD Political Science and Abina Habib from the Department of English were the jury members for the debate competition while Shabeer Ahmad Parey conducted the proceedings of the event.
