Era of peace and progress has begun: President Murmu
Leh, Nov 1: President Droupadi Murmu Wednesday said that a new era of peace, progress, and prosperity had begun.
Speaking on the occasion of a civic reception hosted in her honour by the administration in Leh on her second day of the Ladakh visit, the President said, “A new era of progress, peace, and prosperity has begun.”
She said Ladakh has tremendous potential for the development of spiritual, adventure, and eco-tourism.
The President arrived in Leh on Tuesday on her two-day maiden visit to Ladakh where she attended the 5th Ladakh UT Foundation Day celebrations.
On the 2nd day of her visit, she attended a civic reception hosted in her honour at Sindhu Ghat, Leh by the Ladakh administration.
The President thanked the people of Ladakh for the warm welcome on her first visit as the President of India.
Later, she interacted with tribal groups of Ladakh including Brokpa, Changpa, Balti, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Leh.
“There has been a massive change in infrastructure development, e-governance, healthcare, housing, women's empowerment, tribal outreach, and inclusive development,” the President said.
“The people of Ladakh are also moving forward with enthusiasm towards making India a developed nation by the year 2047.”
She expressed confidence that the people of Ladakh would continue to march ahead together on the path of peace, progress, and patriotism.
Expressing happiness to be at the Sindhu Ghat, the President said that the Sindhu River exists in the depth of historical, cultural, and spiritual consciousness of all Indians.
She said that it was a pleasure to meet the loving people of Ladakh and that the people of India had a special feeling of affection and respect for the people of Ladakh and that they know about the contributions made by them in protecting the nation.
The President said that the people of this region were known for bravery and their faith in Buddha.
She said that there were endless possibilities for the development of spiritual tourism, adventure tourism, and eco-tourism in Ladakh.
The President said that this region has immense potential for the development of wellness tourism or health tourism.
Interacting with the members of the tribal groups of Ladakh, she said that the Self-Help Groups were playing an important role in the socio-economic empowerment of women in Ladakh and enabling them to take control of their lives.
The President said that the government had implemented key reforms and initiatives for the transformation of tribal society, and its focus was on holistic development to provide new strengths and capabilities to the community.
She said that it was a matter of happiness that the rich traditions of many tribal communities were alive in Ladakh.
The President said that people know about the affection and respect for nature which were reflected in the arts, dances, songs, and lifestyle of tribal communities.
She said that there was a need to preserve the lifestyle of tribal communities following the ‘Lifestyle for the Environment’.
The President said that people of those communities should also be encouraged to adopt the goodness of modern development.
She said that this confluence of tradition and modernity would prove to be the right path to sustainable development for all citizens, including the people of Ladakh.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Lieutenant Governor Ladakh B D Mishra said that the President's life had been inspirational.
“She has devoted her life to empowering deprived sections of the society and socio-economic empowerment of women, providing them with confidence and a sense of self-esteem. Her vision and ideals will continue to guide the world's largest democracy,” he said.
