EPCH hosts design workshop in Srinagar
Srinagar, Dec 28: The Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) marked a significant milestone in Kashmir's handicraft sector today with the launch of the Jammu & Kashmir Artisans and Exporters Welfare Association (JKEWA) alongside an interactive session on design trends and export compliance.
The session, attended by EPCH's top leadership including Vice Chairman Neeraj Khanna and former chairmen Raj Kumar Malhotra and Ravi K Passi, focused on equipping local exporters with insights into upcoming design trends and international market standards.
"The establishment of JKEWA in Srinagar will significantly benefit local artisans and their families," said Arshad Mir, Member COA-EPCH. He highlighted EPCH's recent partnership with the Wildlife Institute of India for advanced Pashmina certification at their Dehradun facility, strengthening quality assurance for international markets.
EPCH Vice Chairman Neeraj Khanna emphasized the critical role of skill enhancement and digital marketing in global competitiveness. "Blending traditional artistry with contemporary trends is essential for market adaptability," he noted.
The council's Executive Director, R.K. Verma, revealed that handicraft exports reached Rs. 32,759 Crores (US $3,956 Million) in 2023-24, showing growth of 9.13% in rupee terms. Jammu & Kashmir contributed Rs. 15.64 crores to these exports.
Amla Srivastava, EPCH's Assistant Director Design, presented upcoming trends for Autumn/Winter 25/26, highlighting the shift toward minimalism and nature-inspired designs.
