Ensuring of safe, secure environment | Ahead of Republic Day security forces to intensify efforts

Baramulla, Jan 11: Ahead of the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, security forces in Baramulla are set to intensify their efforts to ensure a safe and secure environment.

A top officer said that there will be an increase in the checkpoints (Nakas) during day and night besides focus will be laid on patrolling of security forces.

The decision to set up new checkpoints and laying focus on patrolling was taken in the high level joint security review meeting chaired by Major General Rajesh Sethi, GoC 19 Infantry Division at 19 Infantry Division headquarters on January 10.

The meeting was attended by top Army officers including Brigadiers and Commanders of various divisions besides top officers from Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and J&K Police. Other security and intelligence agencies were also present in the meeting.

An official said that in view of the Republic Day function on January 26, checkpoints for day and night time will be increased and in addition to the existing ones new checkpoints will be set up at strategic locations to keep a close eye on the overall situation.

"Besides night checkpoints, night patrolling of security forces will also be done to keep a vigil 24*7," an officer who was part of the meeting, told Greater Kashmir, wishing not to be named.

He said the security review was held in the context of January 26 wherein discussions were held on all the inputs available with the different security agencies besides deliberations took place on other issues as well.

"Officers from all the security agencies shared their intelligence inputs which were discussed in the meeting," he said.

The officer said the main focus of the meeting was January 26 and it aimed at enhancing and strengthening the security besides filling up the gaps as well.

"Different forces were assigned separate tasks during the meeting in context of the upcoming R-Day function. Main focus was to keep better coordination and synergy among all the security agencies to thwart any untoward incident," the officer said.
