Srinagar has been witnessing extensive development work in connection with the Smart City Project since the beginning of the last year. A number of projects have already been completed, some others are nearing completion and work on some other projects is also going on. The work on some roads had caused traffic jamming last year but efforts were being made that the vehicular traffic must not be  completely stopped on such roads.

However, the passenger transport vehicles were disallowed through Lal Chowk and adjoining areas. This winter the work is going at several places. According to local residents and commuters, the traffic movement is getting affected on some narrow link roads not because of the construction or repair work but because of the haphazard dropping of the required material on roads.

They say that immediately after sunset, the trucks come and drop the material on link roads, where the work is going on. Because of the laying of the material on roads, the traffic movement becomes problematic there. The two way roads become one way and even in one way there is difficulty in driving.

Vehicles coming from opposite sides block the road for each other and are thus caught in traffic  jamming for long. The residents allege that during the day time the contractors do not bother to use labourers to clear the roads and put the dropped material on the road side.

Those traveling on such roads have to face lot of inconvenience and jamming for long. Even the ambulances get stuck there. The residents say that instead of dropping the material on roads the contractors must dump the material on the available vacant land.
