Baramulla, June 11: National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah today appealed the people in Jammu and Kashmir  to ensure hospitable atmosphere for the coming Amarnath Yatra.

He was talking to media persons here after visiting the bereaved family of a party worker, who passed away recently. “People of J&K have always extended their help for the Yatra and the pilgrims. We have always welcomed Amarnath Yatris and it is our duty to make them comfortable. God willing, the yatra will be held in a cordial atmosphere this year too," Dr Farooq Abdullah said.

National Conference President strongly condemned the Reasi terrorist attack. He said that despite the recent terrorist attack, the overall security scenario across Jammu and Kashmir has improved.

While condemning the terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi he said that the incident is against the humanity and expressed deep anguish over the attack on innocent pilgrims.

“I am pained over the killing of pilgrims. We, the people of the Jammu and Kashmir, should condemn it," he said.

Over the question of Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's congratulatory message to  Narendra Modi on his third term as Prime Minister, Farooq Abdullah stressed on the need for result oriented diplomacy. "While the two counterparts may keep congratulating each other, they should act upon the bonhomie," he said, urging for substantive progress in Indo-Pak relations.
