Enforcement drive to promote road safety compliance held in Kargil

Kargil, Jun 27: The Office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Kargil, and Traffic Police carried out a two-day enforcement drive on June 25 and 26, aimed at strengthening road safety and ensuring compliance with the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

Led by the Motor Vehicle Inspector, the enforcement team penalised several violators for various traffic and documentation-related offences.

During the drive, nine vehicles were booked under Section 177 (General Offences), resulting in the collection of Rs 8000 in fines.

A vehicle was fined Rs 1000 under Section 190(2) for operating without a valid Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUCC).

Additionally, five vehicles were booked under Section 196 for driving without valid insurance, with Rs 5000 collected in penalties while the remaining fine of Rs 2000 was collected from other challaned vehicles.

Reiterating its commitment to road safety, the ARTO Kargil advised all vehicle owners to carry valid documents at all times, including insurance papers, PUCC, and driving licences to avoid legal action.

Further, it was said that regular enforcement drives will continue to be conducted across the district to instil safer and more responsible driving habits among motorists.
