Energy conservation key to sustainable development: President Murmu

New Delhi, Dec 14: President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday presented the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025 and prizes for the National Painting Competition on Energy Conservation in New Delhi, marking National Energy Conservation Day.

Addressing the gathering, the President described energy conservation as the most environmentally friendly and dependable source of energy, stressing that it is no longer a choice but an urgent necessity.

She said conserving energy does not merely mean using less, but using it wisely, responsibly and efficiently.

She noted that simple measures such as avoiding unnecessary use of electrical appliances, adopting energy-efficient devices, maximising natural light and ventilation, and shifting to solar and other renewable energy sources help save energy while reducing carbon emissions.

Energy conservation, she added, also plays a crucial role in ensuring clean air, safe water and a balanced ecosystem.

Every unit of energy saved, she said, reflects society’s responsibility towards nature and concern for future generations.

Emphasising the role of young people, the President noted that greater awareness and active participation by children and youth could help the country achieve its energy conservation goals and ensure sustainable development.

She also underlined that access to affordable and clean energy empowers communities, boosts local economies and creates new opportunities for growth.

Green energy, she said, goes beyond power generation and serves as a key instrument for empowerment and inclusive development.
