Jammu, Apr 25: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu zone Bhim Sen Tuti has stated that the encounters, presently underway, point towards the success of security forces to engage holed up terrorists at different places and very soon they (terrorists) will be neutralised.

He said that the security forces, in perfect synergy, were performing their duties with dedication, commitment and in a thorough professional manner. “These encounters, which you are witnessing and are presently underway in different areas, are in fact, the result of our hard work. They demonstrate that we have been successful in engaging the (holed-up) terrorists at different places. We will further intensify our action and very soon, we will be able to neutralise all remaining terrorists,” IGP Jammu said.

He was responding to media persons’ queries after concluding his two-day tour to Doda and Kishtwar districts. “I, along with the Divisional Commissioner Jammu, was on a two-day tour of Doda-Kishtwar. We conducted a security review of all infrastructural projects and tourist spots in the two districts. Following security assessment, we deliberated on the measures to remove lacunae, if there were any and gave appropriate directions on that account,” IGP stated.

Meanwhile, massive “Search and destroy” operations Friday were underway in Kathua, Udhampur and Kishtwar districts. In Kathua district, security forces launched a search operation in Chann Rorian near Railway Yard in Hiranagar, following suspicious movement along the International Border. A similar search operation was underway in Chhatroo area of Kishtwar to trace hiding terrorists.

In Udhampur district, “search and destroy” operation continued on the second day in the thick forests of Birli Gali in Dudu-Basantgarh area which on Thursday witnessed intense gunfire between security forces and terrorists. An army soldier of 6 Para of Special forces of Indian Army was killed in the exchange of fire.

Officials said that security forces had ramped up operations, jointly conducted by JKP, Army and the CRPF to hunt down holed up terrorists.  Helicopters and drones were being used for surveillance besides other equipment

To pay tribute to the army brave-heart Havildar Jhantu Ali Shaikh, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the 166 Military Hospital in Jammu. Senior army, JKP, CRPF and BSF officers, led by the Chief of Staff of the White Knight Corps, Major General Shailender Singh laid a wreath on the body of Shaikh, a native of West Bengal and saluted his sacrifice.

Later his mortal remains were dispatched to his native state for last rites.     In Doda-Kishtwar districts, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti and Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, jointly reviewed the prevailing security scenario and assessing preparedness for upcoming events and devising comprehensive future preparedness.

The visit underscored the administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and enhancing coordination between security forces, civil administration and other sister agencies. The officers were accompanied by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) DKR Range, Shridhar Patil.

A high-level security and crime review meeting was convened at the District Police Office (DPO) Kishtwar on Thursday. During the session, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Naresh Singh gave a detailed power-point presentation, briefing the officers on the district’s overall security landscape, counter-insurgency measures, law and order management, and recent crime patterns.

The meeting witnessed the participation of key officials including the Commander 5 Sector Assam Rifles, JBS Rathi; Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan; Commanding Officers of the Army, CRPF, CISF, and IRP; Additional SP Kishtwar; Additional SP PC; SDPOs; DySP CID; officers from the Intelligence Bureau; MI, SHOs; and ICPPs of the district.

Comprehensive discussions were held on enhancing inter-agency synergy, strengthening intelligence networks, improving the public-police interface, and implementing proactive policing strategies to ensure lasting peace and security across the region.

While addressing the officers, IGP Jammu Bhim Sen Tuti stressed the importance of cohesive efforts, operational readiness, and community-oriented policing to maintain a secure and peaceful environment.

He also reviewed the deployment and contingency plans for the forthcoming festivals and significant events like various religious Yatras in the district in coming days.
