Encounter starts in Kulgam village: Police

Srinagar, Jan 3: An encounter between security forces and terrorists is underway in Hadigam village of Kulgam in south Kashmir.

“Encounter has started at Hadigam area of Kulgam district. Kulgam Police, Army and CRPF are on the job. Further details will follow,” Kashmir Zone Police posted on X on Wednesday evening.

Police said that the encounter broke out after Police, 9 RR of the Army and paramilitary CRPF cordoned off the area to search for hiding terrorists.

It said that as soon as searches were started, the hiding terrorists opened fire.

Police said that the fire was returned, triggering in an encounter.

It said that the firing stopped and operation would be suspended in the backdrop of darkness.

“The cordon has been tightened and more reinforcements have arrived,” Police said.
