Jammu, Oct 3: Security forces and militants Thursday exchanged a few rounds of fire in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar district.

An exchange of fire was reported when a joint search operation was launched following intelligence inputs about the Militants hiding in the Chatroo area.

The militants opened fire at the security personnel, who retaliated in equal measure, officials said.

“Based on specific intelligence about the presence of terrorists, a joint search operation was launched by security forces at Chatroo in Kishtwar district. Contact was established and few rounds were fired from both sides,” a Police spokesperson said.

On September 13, two Army personnel were killed and two others were injured in an intense fire-fight between security forces and militants in the Pingnal-Dugadda forest area of Chatroo.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma Thursday visited the house of Head Constable Bashir Ahmed, who was killed in the recent Kog Mandli encounter at Billawar and met his family members at Channi Himmat, Jammu.

The DIG was accompanied by SSP Kathua Shobit Saxena; SP Operations Billawar Aumer; SDPO East, Jammu Sheezan Bhat and SHO Channi Himmat Muhammad Sadiq.

“Head Constable Bashir Ahmed was a brave man and J&K Police will always remember him. He will be an inspiration for the generations to come,” DIG JSK Range said and assured full support to his family.

Asserting that his death would not go in vain, DIG Sharma said, “J&K Police has always been with the family of such Police personnel.”

Later, DIG JSK Range also went to Military Hospital (MH) Satwari and met Assistant Sub Inspector Niaz, who sustained injuries in the same encounter.

DIG Sharma asked about his well-being and assured to give every help.

“We are proud of such men working in J&K Police. We always stand with them in every difficult moment,” he said.
