Encounter breaks out in south Kashmir's Tral

Srinagar, May 15: An encounter broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Nader area of Tral in south Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, police said.

An official said that the security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area after receiving specific intelligence inputs regarding the presence of terrorists.

“As the joint team of forces approached the suspected location, the hiding terrorists opened fire, which was retaliated to, leading to a gunfight,” the official said.

Confirming the development, Jammu and Kashmir Police posted on social media platform X: "Encounter has started at Nader, Tral area of #Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice"
