Encounter breaks out in Poonch village

Rajouri, Sep 14: Security forces and terrorists on Saturday evening exchanged gunfire in Pathanateer village of Poonch’s Mendhar sub division.

The exchange took place during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) by the security forces in the area.

Officials said that a joint team of the Army and the J&K Police was on CASO in Pathanateer and adjoining villages of Mendhar sub division during which terrorists hiding in the forests fired at the search teams, which was retaliated, leading to a brief exchange of gunfire.

“Cordon has been strengthened in the area and searches have been intensified to track the terrorists,” they said. There was no immediate report of fresh firing after the initial exchange of gunfire.
