Elon Musk announces end of role in Trump administration’s efficiency office
New Delhi, May 29: Elon Musk has announced the conclusion of his stint as a Special Government Employee in the Trump administration, where he headed the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to CNN.
“As my scheduled time as a Special Government Employee comes to an end, I would like to thank President @realDonaldTrump for the opportunity to reduce wasteful spending,” Musk wrote on X. “The @DOGE mission will only strengthen over time as it becomes a way of life throughout the government.”
Tech billionaire Musk’s role at DOGE, a position created as part of the administration’s broader initiative to slash federal spending and streamline bureaucracy, involved overseeing deep cuts to the federal workforce. The department became a cornerstone of Trump’s second-term push for a leaner government.
His departure comes shortly after expressing concerns about the administration’s sweeping tax and spending cuts package. In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Musk warned that the plan could inflate the federal deficit and undermine the cost-cutting progress made by DOGE. A White House official confirmed that Musk will begin the formal offboarding process later this evening, which largely involves administrative paperwork, reports CNN.
