Election campaign in full swing in Ramban district
Ramban, Sep 03: Election campaign for the first phase of assembly elections is in full swing in Ramban district spread over two assembly constituencies Ramban and Banihal.
The two constituencies will go to polls in the first phase on September 18.
Star campaigners of various political parties are going to hold rallies and road shows in different parts of the district to woo the voters. Security measures have been tightening across the district.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally at Sangaldan on Wednesday. Sangaldan is a part of Banihal assembly segment, Rahul Gandhi will address an election rally in favor of Vikar Rasool Wani.
Wani is a two times MLA from Banihal assembly segment. He is a former minister and ex-JKPCC Chief. Despite pre poll alliance both Congress and NC fielded their candidates for Banihal assembly constituency as both the parties could not come to an agreement and failed to reach a consensus on five assembly seats including on Banihal seat.
However senior party leaders claimed it is a friendly contest on the Banihal seat but the ground situation is different.
Earlier Sangaldan and Gool was part of Gool-Arnas constituency after delimitation in 2022 both Gool and Sangaldan carved out and merged with Banihal assembly constituency.
Meanwhile while addressing the rallies at Tangar, Batote and Ukhral, BJP contesting candidate from Ramban assembly constituency Rakesh Thakur targeted the NC, Congress whereas other leaders including NC candidate from Ramban, Adv, Arjun Singh Raju are also addressing public meetings to woo the voters.
