Elected govt’s role crucial for lasting peace: Tarigami
Shopian, Nov 2: Senior legislator and CPI(M) leader Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami on Saturday said that it was crucial to take the elected government into confidence for the restoration of peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
“It is the responsibility of the Government of India to take the elected government and legislators into confidence for the restoration of peace,” he told reporters on the sidelines of a literary conference in south Kashmir’s Shopian town. CPI M) leader said that achieving peace may not be easy without the cooperation of legislators. “The coordination and consultation with the legislators are imperative to achieve sustainable peace,” he said.
Terming the recent spurt in violence as rather unfortunate, Tarigami said that it was not the first time that such incidents had taken place.
“Before the elected government took office, numerous incidents occurred in Jammu and other parts of the region. It is important to note that such incidents did not begin only after the elected government assumed power”, Tarigami said. He said that the security issues were under the supervision of the Lieutenant Governor.
Tarigami, however, added that it was the responsibility of every one to help in restoring peace. He said that the elected government must fulfill the promises made to the people of J&K.
“People are confronting a host of issues including electricity, unemployment and detentions. I hope that the government will live up to the expectations of the people,” said CPI (M) leader.
