Banihal, Apr 30: A 68-year-old woman was injured in a bear attack in village Chanjloo of Banihal in district Ramban on Wednesday.

The victim was identified as Khatija Begum (68), wife of Ghulam Mohammad Zohda, resident of Chanjloo Banihal. The incident occurred at around 3 pm in afternoon.

Reports said the woman was near her house in Nayak Pora Chanjloo when a black bear appeared and mauled her before fleeing the scene.

Locals rushed for rescue and injured woman was shifted to SDH Banihal from where doctors referred her to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for further treatment.

Officials said that a team of Wildlife Department from Banihal has been rushed to the spot. They said a search operation was launched to locate the bear and drive him out from the village back to forest area.

Wildlife officials have urged villagers to remain cautious and report any sightings of wild animals to the Wildlife Office.
