Srinagar, Oct 23: An umbrella body of government employees in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday impressed upon Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to address their legitimate demands on priority and resolve their issues.

The Employees Joint Consultative Committee (EJCC), J&K, an amalgam of 4.5 lakh employees and workers, offered their full support to the government in addressing grievances and concerns of the employees in a time-bound manner.

“Several employees were unilaterally terminated in the last 5 years without being given a chance to defend themselves. We urge the new government to review the cases of terminations and uphold the principles of justice and fairness,” EJCC President, Aijaz Ahmad Khan said addressing a news conference here.

Khan said the EJCC was not supporting any anti-national elements but maintained that there were “cases of terminations where the employees had no link with militancy in any manner. These cases need to be reviewed so that justice is done.”

The EJCC said they had already submitted a charter of demands to all political parties before the elections and “urge the Omar Abdullah-led government to fulfil the promises”.

The EJCC demanded regularisation of temporary employees working under various designations in government departments.

The EJCC also demanded the restoration of the SRO43 appointment mechanism in the pre-amendment form.

“We demand restoration of the Old Pension Scheme in J&K,” Khan said.
