“Since the committee to sight the moon confirmed the visibility of the Shawwal crescent, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across J&K on Monday,” he said. “We received confirmation from almost all parts of J&K. These include Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, Chenab Valley, Kangan, and others. I congratulate everyone on the auspicious occasion of Eid and urge them to celebrate Eid with simplicity.”

The Grand Mufti said that parents should keep an eye on youngsters so that they do not indulge in any anti-social activity, which is against Eid celebration. “I also request the scholars of J&K to remember the Muslims of Palestine on Eid and make special Dua for them.”

Soon after the sunset, people started gathering in groups to sight the moon in Srinagar and other areas of Kashmir.

Given the clear weather, most of the people were able to see the Shawwal crescent with the naked eye.

People were also seen greeting each other as they marked the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan.

“Fortunately, it was clear sky today in Srinagar and elsewhere, and there was no confusion. We are glad that we observed the holy month of Ramadhan, and now we will be celebrating the Eid festival with our family and friends,” said Ashfaq Ahmad from Srinagar.

Meanwhile, social media was flooded with pictures of the crescent that was visible in the skies of J&K.

People were seen taking to social media to greet each other. Over the past few days, the administration including Waqf Board held special meetings and took stock of the arrangements on the Eid.

Officials said that all preparations were in place to ensure smooth celebration of Eid festival across J&K.

On Monday Eid prayers will be offered across J&K.

In Kashmir the biggest congregation will be held at Dargah Hazratbal shrine where people in huge numbers are expected to attend the Eid prayers.
