ECI launches special revision of electoral rolls in Bihar
New Delhi, Jun 24: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has ordered a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, the first such exercise since 2003. Aimed at ensuring accuracy and transparency, the revision will include house-to-house verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to add eligible voters and remove ineligible entries.
The move addresses issues like rapid urbanisation, migration, and unreported deaths.
The Commission has instructed that documents verifying eligibility be uploaded on the ECINET platform—accessible only to authorised officials—to maintain transparency while safeguarding privacy. The ECI has urged political parties to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) to support the process and reduce discrepancies. Special care will be taken to assist elderly, disabled, and vulnerable voters, with provisions for volunteers to ensure smooth participation.
