Kishtwar, May 31: In a powerful prelude to World Environment Day 2025, the Department of Youth Services & Sports Kishtwar, under the dynamic leadership of District Youth Services & Sports Officer Jaffer Haider Sheikh, launched a series of district-wide plastic Clean-Up drives across Kishtwar, Nagseni, and Marwah Zones. The initiative, themed “Ending Plastic Pollution,” saw enthusiastic participation and resonated deeply with the global call to safeguard the planet.

With the active involvement of over 535 students — including 289 boys and 246 girls, the campaign transformed into a vibrant movement of youth led environmental action. From schoolyards and village lanes to public markets and riverbanks, students, teachers and sports staff joined forces to clean, educate and inspire.

In Zone Kishtwar, students from multiple government schools conducted large-scale drives, collecting and segregating plastic and non-biodegradable waste, while echoing the message with creative slogans and eco-friendly posters.

Zone Nagseni witnessed active involvement of school eco-clubs, led by Physical Education Masters and teachers, who orchestrated impactful street plays, awareness sessions and recycling demonstrations. Students took a solemn oath to reduce single-use plastics and promote sustainable living.

Despite its remote location, Zone Marwah stood out with its festival-like clean-up drive, as students, teachers and local residents united in an inspiring show of community spirit and environmental commitment.

This campaign marks an early but emphatic start to World Environment Day celebrations, aligning with the vision of the Directorate of Youth Services & Sports, J&K. It reflects a deep-rooted commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development within the district.
