Dumping of construction material on vacant land irks Buchpora residents

Srinagar, Jul 11: Residents of Buchpora area have expressed concern over the dumping of construction material on vacant land in the area for sale purposes, saying it is disturbing their normal life.

A delegation of residents said that vacant land at Naqshband Colony, Bazaz Bagh area of Buchprora, "has become an unauthorised dumping ground for building materials". They said the dumping of sand and bajri in the area has triggered serious concerns among residents over health hazards and noise pollution.

The aggrieved residents said that over the past couple of months, the vacant plot has been actively used for dumping construction material with trucks frequently during night hours. They said the movement of heavy vehicles on the narrow colony lanes has damaged roads, increased the risk of accidents, and disturbed the otherwise peaceful environment of the area.

“The roads in our locality were never meant for such heavy trucks. Their constant movement, especially at night, is making it dangerous for pedestrians and has already left many lanes damaged,” said a resident of the colony.

In this regard, the welfare committee in the locality has also written to officials, “However, no concrete action has been taken so far on the ground.” The aggrieved said these activities have introduced serious health and safety risks.

“My children wake up terrified whenever a truck enters the lane late at night. It is impacting their health and studies,” said another aggrieved.

The residents said transportation of material has made the lanes dusty and difficult to navigate. Residents claim that clouds of dust linger in the air, affecting air quality and making life uncomfortable, especially for those with respiratory problems.

Meanwhile, the issue has yet again reflected a growing problem in Srinagar, where unchecked commercial activity is slowly encroaching upon residential colonies, raising serious questions about urban planning and regulatory enforcement in the city.
