The DSEK has proposed that the timing for schools falling within Srinagar municipal limits be fixed from 10 am to 3 pm while the timing for schools outside Srinagar municipal limits and other areas of Kashmir be fixed from 10:30 am to 3:30 pm.

“It is therefore requested that necessary instructions and orders are solicited in this regard," the official document reads.

As per the policy in vogue, the timing of schools is fixed for summer and winter months respectively.

The winter timing for schools is fixed from November 1 to March 31 of next year. While the timing of schools during the summer season remains effective from May 1 to October 31.

Also, the timing of schools is occasionally changed in view of extreme heat waves. The timing is usually fixed from 8 am to 1 pm.

Meanwhile, an official said the proposal was yet to reach the office of the education minister for approval and implementation of the winter timing in schools.

“Once the file reaches the office of the education minister, the decision will be taken accordingly. We have not seen the proposal yet,” an official said.
