DSEK notifies uniform date sheet for classes up to 9th

Srinagar, Nov 9: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) Saturday notified a uniform date sheet for students up to class 9th for their summative assessment in their respective schools.

The date sheet comes days after the government issued formal notification for the restoration of the previous November session for schools.

The National Conference (NC)-led government on October 30, 2024, announced the restoration of the November session for schools up to class 9th from the current academic session.

The formal announcement was made by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

As per the date sheet notified by the DSEK, the summative assessment will commence on November 25, 2024, for classes 1st to 9th for all schools of the Kashmir division.

The assessment will culminate on December 4, 2024, for classes up to 5th primary and December 6, 2024, for class 6th to 9th students.

“The question papers will be set by concerned schools as per the student evaluation and assessment scheme keeping in view the competencies, curricular goals, and learning outcomes of the students as envisaged in the holistic progress card. The school heads will ensure all requisite arrangements are in place for smooth conduct of the examination and also ensure that answer papers are evaluated in time so that the result can be declared by or before December 15,” reads the notification.

In a separate notification, the DSEK said that the exam for vocational subjects of class 9th students would be conducted after December 6, 2024, by the respective schools.

Director of School Education Kashmir, Tasaduq Hussain said that the uniform date sheet was issued after the proposal to hold an assessment was approved by the School Education Department (SED).

“We want to conclude the exam by December 15, 2024, so that we can start new classes from December 20,” he told media persons.

However, he urged the students not to be stressed due to exam pressure saying that the assessment would be student-friendly.

“We are aware of the percentage of the syllabus we have completed. Almost 90 percent of the syllabus up to the 9th class has been completed. It will be a school-based and student-friendly exam. So, students need not to worry," he said.
