Dry cold triggers surge in respiratory ailments in Rajouri, Poonch
Rajouri, Dec 15: Prolonged dry cold conditions have adversely affected the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, leading to a noticeable rise in respiratory ailments among residents.
Health officials report that people, particularly children and the elderly, are increasingly suffering from respiratory allergies and related complications.
According to hospital authorities, the Out Patient Department (OPD) at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and other healthcare institutions has witnessed a significant increase in patient footfall over the past three weeks.
Most of the cases are related to respiratory allergies, breathing difficulties and throat infections, attributed largely to the prevailing dry cold and dusty atmosphere caused by the absence of rainfall.
Deputy Medical Superintendent of GMC Associated Hospital Rajouri, Dr Javed Iqbal, has advised the public to take adequate precautions to protect themselves from the adverse effects of dry cold weather.
He urged people to wear proper warm clothing, consume warm water regularly and take immunity boosters to strengthen their resistance against seasonal ailments.
Dr Iqbal also appealed to residents to avoid exposure to dust and cold air as much as possible and to seek medical attention promptly in case of persistent respiratory symptoms.
