Kupwara, Aug 3: An illegally acquired vehicle of a notorious drug peddler was attached in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, Police said Saturday.

A statement of J&K Police issued here said, “In a decisive move against drug trafficking, Police Station Trehgam froze a vehicle (DLICP 8533) belonging to Gulzar Ahmad Baba of Kawari Trehgam. This action was taken under Section 68 (E) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS).”

The statement said that during an investigation conducted under Section 68(E) of the NDPS Act, the vehicle was identified as illegally acquired.

“The accused, Gulzar Ahmad Baba is involved in case FIRs 373/2021 and 49/2022 of Police Station Kupwara and has previously been taken into preventive custody under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS),” the statement said.

It said that Police in Kupwara urges all residents to assist in the fight against drug peddling by providing any relevant information.

“Community cooperation is essential to combat this menace. Individuals found engaging in drug peddling will face strict legal consequences,” the statement said.
