Drug peddler held with contraband in Baramulla: Police

Srinagar, Mar 03: Baramulla Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A police official said that a police party of PS Wagoora headed by IC PP Wagoora established a checkpoint at Takiya Wagoora during which they intercepted a suspicious person identified as Gurmeet Singh son of Ajit Singh resident of Singh Bala Baramulla. During searches, 2.5 kg of Poppy Straw concealed in a handbag, was recovered from his possession, the police official said and added, the person has been arrested and shifted to PS Kreeri.

A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Kreeri and investigations taken up.

Police also requested people to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, and assured community members that tough action will be taken against criminals.
