Kupwara, Dec 10: After obtaining a detention warrant under PIT NDPS Act from competent authorities, a notorious drug peddler was arrested in Gund Moomin Vilgam area of Handwara, a senior police officer said.

He told Greater Kashmir that several cases have been registered against the accused in the past, who was actively “involved in destroying the lives of youth by pushing them towards substance abuse.”

He said that the accused identified as Manzoor Ahmad Shah, a resident of Gund Moomin Vilgam has been brought to Police Station for further course of action.

Meanwhile Police in a statement said, “In a significant step towards curbing the menace of drug trafficking, Handwara Police detained Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Saif Ud Deen Shah, a resident of Gund Moomin, under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988 (PIT NDPS),”

“Manzoor Ahmad Shah is a key member of a drug trafficking syndicate actively involved in destroying the lives of youth by pushing them towards substance abuse. His involvement in multiple criminal cases highlights his persistent engagement in illicit activities. FIR No. 266/2020 under Section 8/20 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Kupwara and FIR No. 15/2024 under Sections 8/20, 29 NDPS Act registered at Police Station Villgam” reads the statement.

“Despite these actions, the individual continued his illegal activities, prompting the initiation of detention proceedings under PIT NDPS. Today, a detention warrant under Section 3 of the PIT NDPS Act was received and executed, and the individual has been brought to the police station for further action,” added the statement.

“Handwara Police remains committed to eradicating drug abuse and trafficking in the region. Strict action will continue against those involved in such activities to safeguard the future of the youth and ensure a drug-free society” reads the statement further.
