‘Drug addiction is a social problem, needs to be fought with all strength’
Srinagar, Jan 8: In a proactive move to address the rising concerns of substance abuse, the Police Drug De-addiction Centre in Srinagar is making significant strides in providing support, treatment, and rehabilitation for individuals struggling with drug addiction.
Amid growing substance abuse issues in Kashmir, the Police Drug De-addiction Centre is becoming a beacon of hope for those seeking recovery with each passing. The centre focuses on a holistic approach, combining medical intervention, counselling, and rehabilitation services to help individuals break free from the chains of addiction.
Over the last two years, the centre has treated more than 4500 individuals struggling with drug addiction, with 2337 cases in 2022 and 2321 cases in 2023.
On Monday, Sujit Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police, CKR, Srinagar, conducted a comprehensive review of the Police Drug De-Addiction Centre at Eidgah, Srinagar, applauding its commendable efforts in the rehabilitation of individuals struggling with drug addiction.
Dr Muzafar Ahmad Khan, Incharge of the Drug De-Addiction Centre, welcomed the distinguished guest and introduced him to the In-Patient Department (IPD) patients.
During his visit, Sujit Kumar actively engaged with the patients, seeking their feedback and understanding their experiences with the centre’s services. The officer's hands-on approach demonstrated a commitment to ensuring the well-being and successful recovery of those undergoing treatment.
A meeting with the centre's staff followed, where Sujit Kumar addressed their concerns, assuring them that their grievances would be addressed promptly. He encouraged the staff to continue their dedicated work, emphasising that the drug addiction is a social problem and needs to be fought with all the strength and resources.”
"In its endeavor to achieve zero drug addiction in Kashmir, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has undertaken the noble mission of drug de-addiction. The Drug De-Addiction Centre has already made a name for itself, but there is recognition that more needs to be done," Sujit Kumar said during the meeting.
Present at the occasion were other key police officers, including SP City North Raja Zuhaib, SDPO Mahraj Gunj Hari Prasad, and Inspector Sheikh Vakil SHO Safakadal, demonstrating the collaborative efforts of law enforcement in addressing the social issue of drug addiction.
This commendable track record reflects the center's commitment to its noble mission and its impact on the lives of those affected by drug addiction.
