Drowning incidents: SDM Kangan issues advisory

Kangan, Jun 11: With an aim to prevent drowning incidents, Sub-Divisional administration in Kangan has issued advisory asking people to avoid bathing in open water bodies. An advisory issued by the Sub Divisional Magistrate Kangan said that it has come to the notice that a large number of children in Sub-Division Kangan are bathing in open water bodies such as Nallah Sindh, Wangath Nallah, PDC Canal, Barwalla Waterfall, which is always risky as these sites lack proper design, safety infrastructure, and rescue mechanisms.

There are no formal or certified swimming facilities available at these locations, and past experiences have shown that such activities often lead to fatal drowning incidents, it said. Parents and guardians are strongly advised to exercise strict vigilance over their children's activities during this period and children shall not be allowed to bathe in, enter, or play near any open water sources under any circumstances, the advisory said.  Furthermore, to intensify monitoring, the directions have been issued to Assistant Executive Engineer CMD/ Generation USHP -II Kangan and Assistant Executive Engineer, Flood Control Division, Ganderbal to activate field staff to maintain strict vigil at all vulnerable sites. Besides Tehsildar Kangan, Tehsildar Gund shall mobilize Lumberdars and Chowkidars to assist in surveillance and discouraging of such risky activities. Further , Station House Officer Kangan, Ganderbal, Gund , and Sonamarg shall keep strict vigil in and around the water bodies.
