Driver killed, 3 others injured after boulder hits passenger vehicle in Banihal

Banihal, June 01: A tragic road accident claimed the life of a driver and left three passengers injured when a boulder struck an ECCO passenger vehicle in the Khari area of sub-division Banihal on Saturday.

According to reports, the vehicle was en route to Trana village from the Khari tehsil headquarters when the incident occurred on the Trana link road. A sudden shooting stone/ boulder rolled down the hillside, crashing into the moving vehicle.

The driver died on the spot due to the impact of the big boulder. Among the injured are woman and two male passengers. All three were initially shifted to SDH Banihal for treatment. Later, they were referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag for further treatment.

Police identified the dead as driver Mohammad Iqbal, son of Abdul Rasheed Khanday, resident of Mundakbass Tehsil Khari in district Ramban, while as the injured have been identified as Bahar Ahmed Malik, son of Ab.Rehman Malik, resident of Trana Khari; Mansoora Begum, wife of Bahar Ahmed; and Mohd Saad, son of Bahar Ahmed (age 10 months).
