Driver dies, 8 injured in twin Poonch accidents

Poonch, Feb 3: The driver of an auto-rickshaw died while eight persons sustained injuries in two separate accidents in the Poonch district of the Pir Panjal region.

Both accidents took place on Saturday evening and involved four vehicles.

As per the officials, an accident took place at Gundi, Qazi Mohra on Poonch Mandi road near Poonch town when a minibus (JK12 1385) on the way from Poonch to Mandi collided head-on with an auto rickshaw (JK12C 7247).

In the head-on collision between both vehicles, auto-rickshaw driver Mukhtar Hussain of Chaktroo Mandi died on the spot while five passengers were injured.

The injured were identified as Zulfikar Ahmad, 29, son of Ghulam Muhammad of Chaktroo Mandi, Manzoor Ahmed, 50, son of Ahad Joo of Barachar Mandi, Altaf Ahmad, 46, son of Muzamil Shah of Nangali, and Bashir Ahmed, 60, son of Abdul Satar of Kankote.

Three people sustained injuries in another accident that took place when a can and a car collided head-on at Jarran Wali Gali in the Surankote sub-division of Poonch.

The injured were taken to a civil hospital where they are being treated and are out of danger.
