Drive against traffic violations carried out in Uri
Uri, Nov 25: Two days after Greater Kashmir reported that locals in the Uri area were urging authorities to take strict action against cab drivers violating traffic norms, the Traffic Police Rural swung into action on Monday, conducting checks at various locations across the border town.
Ravinder Pal Singh, SSP Traffic Rural Kashmir told Greater Kashmir that around 50 challans were issued for different traffic violations. “Six vehicles were also seized,” the SSP said.
He added that they have intensified the drive against drivers who are not following traffic rules and engage in violations. “We are taking action against those involved in overloading, driving without seat belts, bikers not wearing helmets, and especially teenagers driving without licenses,” he stated.
Singh urged the public to follow traffic norms while driving. “Cab drivers should ensure no overloading occurs, ensure proper documentation and get their vehicles checked by mechanics because winter and travel on hilly roads can be challenging,” he warned. He emphasised that there will be zero tolerance towards the overloading in the vehicles. “Such drives will continue to ensure the safety of all,” he added.
The drives were carried out in areas such as Uri, Boniyar and Chananwari.
