Drinking water shortage hits several Tangmarg villages
Baramulla, Dec 22: The residents of Gonipora, Chanpora, Kassaimohalla, and Takia Gonipora in Kawarhama tehsil of Tangmarg in north Kashmir' s Baramulla district are grappling with an acute water crisis from the last several days.
The affected villagers said that despite being connected to the Gonipora Water Supply Scheme, their hardships show no sign of relief.
"Our woes have worsened even after an additional connection was provided from the Rarem Water Reservoir, which was expected to alleviate the problem," said Ghulam Rasool, a local resident.
Mushtaq Ahmad, a resident of Kasai Mohalla alleged that water distribution from the reservoir is inequitable, with neighboring areas enjoying a steady supply while other areas face severe drinking water shortage.
"Our basic needs, including drinking water and hygiene, have become a daily struggle. The issue has taken a toll on the local residents especially during the present harsh winter," said Ahmad.
The affected villagers have urged MLA Farooq Ahmad Shah, urging him to intervene and resolve the issue.
The locals have pinned hope on Shah that he will personally intervene in the matter and prioritise equitable water distribution in Kawarhama Tehsil.
“This is a dire situation affecting our daily lives and hygiene. We request our MLA to act swiftly and address this issue before it worsens further,” said a local resident of Gonipora.
